Bob Roberts

Trumpet

Bob Roberts joined the trumpet section in 2021. He is a lifelong trumpeter and enjoys every minute of it! His trumpeting career path was set when as a ninth-grader he won First Chair in the Arkansas All-State Band and then in tenth grade was one of four trumpeters selected for American Youth Performs, a national youth orchestra that performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. under the baton of Morton Gould. He participated in a summer program at Indiana University for high school students, which led to attending college there and earning the Bachelor of Music and the Master of Music in Trumpet Performance, along with a Performer’s Certificate. He also won the brass concerto competition while at IU, performing the Arutunian Concerto with the IU Wind Ensemble.

Though eventually getting accounting training and becoming a CPA, Bob has continued throughout the years as an avid freelance trumpeter. Since 2010 he has been a solo cornet in the Natural State Brass Band, and for 35 years he was principal trumpet in the Immanuel Baptist Church orchestra and brass quintet, performing on live TV most Sundays of the year. During the early 1990’s Bob subbed for a year as a section trumpet for the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, highlighted by a performance with the Canadian Brass and ASO Brass combined.
