Michael Chance

Trombone

Conductor and Trombonist Michael Chance joined LR Winds in 2006. He is the assistant conductor for the LR Winds and served as the principal trombonist for 16 years.  He is Emeritus Professor of Music of Harding University where he was Director of Bands, low brass instructor, and coordinator of the instrumental studies division of the Department of Music. Prior to his 23 years at Harding, he served for 21 years as director of high school bands and orchestras in Texas public schools. He directs the Searcy Community Band and is a board member of the Searcy Community School of Music.

 

Dr. Chance has been a member of the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra, the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, the Red River Lyric Opera Orchestra, the San Angelo Community Band, and for twelve seasons was principal trombonist with the Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with the Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra, the Big Spring Symphony Orchestra, and the South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

 

Chance holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from the University of Memphis, a Master of Music in trombone performance from Midwestern State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in music with teacher certification from Lubbock Christian University.
